This little set is marked "Occupied Japan" on the box lid, setting the time in a very narrow window - 1945 to 1952! Until WWII, Japan had NEVER lost a war, so this was a shock. It does make a subset of collecting really easy to date, however! They really made a lot - I do see quite a bit of Occupied Japan, even now! This set is great - it is minty minty minty, in the original minty box! The box is tight, bright and clean with no tears or damage. The ends are staple constructed, and is hasn't been flattened or damaged in any way. All the little figures are different, and all look to be original to this set. The figures are made from celluloid, and 4 of the pieces have little brimless hats, and two have brims, just as pictured on the front. The figures with brims match the figures with brims pictured on the lid. All 6 pieces are playing different instruments, in different poses, just like the figures on the box. The little barrels are in great condition. They all have tiny holes in the top, but only two show the holes, as they are in the very center, and 4 of the figures cover up the holes. They are really small figures, measuring (figures only) 3/4" to 1 1/4".
The total sizes including the barrels measure 1 3/4" to 2". These sets are all over the internet, but I don't see them in this condition. Usually the sets have been damaged, and although there will be 6 figures, they often aren't the right ones, and often don't have hats, or the right hats! The figures are all marked Japan, and it's the box that is marked "Occupied".
This set is just so great. What a great set to add to a Christmas village, for a "Dock on the Bay"!
